BARNES RECEIVES LEAD BASE PAINT RENOVATOR CERTIFICATION

HONESDALE, PA . . .Is your home repair contractor EPA lead safe certified?

After April 22, 2010, the EPA final rule addresses lead- based paint hazard created by renovation, repair, and painting activities that disturb lead- based paint in "target housing" built before 1978.

April 8^th, 2010 – Wayne County Builders Association held an EPA accredited training session “RRP” in Waymart, PA for local contractors. This training is necessary to become Certified Renovators and Certified Firms. Clyde Kreider is an EPA accredited trainer, and trained over 45 individual contractors, representing more than 35 local companies.

As of April 22^nd, 2010, firms performing renovations, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified. Individual renovators must be trained by an EPA- accredited training provider, and the firms and renovators must follow specific work practices to contain and prevent lead contamination.

Local Resident and Co-Owner of Noah Thomas Builders, Inc., Daniel Barnes is one of the first to become certified. “This new federal law is very important to me as a business owner, but more so to any occupant with lead based paint present. These guidelines are very important while doing work in homes with expectant mothers and children through the age of 6. We plan on using these strict EPA guidelines to contain dust on any of our projects”, states Barnes. Barnes also emphasis that homeowners need to verify that their contractor is certified and provides you with the Renovate Right pamphlet when doing any renovation at your residence.
